"The Remarkable Larkings" is the outcome of a journey I made into the past of my family. The story that emerged was redolent of a Victorian melodrama, from the death of William Larking in Maidstone Gaol through to his grandson being knighted and becoming 3 times mayor of the the same town.
Along the way we meet Albert Larking, stalwart of the Early Closing movement, seeking to protect shopworkers from exploitation; stories of action during the First World War; the founding of an accountancy dynasty in Norwich and Kent, and so much more.
Based on extensive research and containing illustrations and family trees, this story is now available in ebook form from Amazon. Now available as a print on demand paperback, with improved editing over the ebook.
The Remarkable Larkings
Although I have reached an end to my research, I know that there is much more that I have been unable to discover - such as why Allan Larking was awarded his Military Medal. If you have more information regarding this family then please get in touch, and I will share it on this website.
Thank you to Sue Russell for additional information regarding Stanley and Percy Woollett, which I will share on here in the near future. Also, as a result of new releases of digitised newspapers i have more information of Albert Larking's time in Gravesend (1875-1883). I will have to update the text of my book !
